As announced by the Ministry of Defense, Krapović congratulated Colonel Markopulos on taking office and expressed confidence that his engagement will contribute to further strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries.
He informed his interlocutor about the priorities of the current Government of Montenegro, among which he particularly emphasized full membership in the EU, and thanked Greece for its continuous support of Montenegro’s European integration process.
“Krapović also emphasized the importance of the alliance within NATO, stating that it further strengthens bilateral defense cooperation and contributes to the stability and security of the European continent. He particularly pointed out the importance of protecting Montenegro’s airspace through the Air Policing mission conducted by the air forces of Greece and Italy, as well as the significance of cooperation in the field of maritime security and joint participation in the SEA GUARDIAN operation,” the statement reads.
Speaking about bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, the minister highlighted the importance of training cadets of the Armed Forces of Montenegro at Greek military academies, which has been successfully implemented for years and represents an important contribution to the development and improvement of Montenegro’s military capabilities.
Colonel Markopulos thanked for the warm reception, expressing confidence that bilateral cooperation will continue to develop with the same intensity and substance as in the previous period, showing readiness to personally contribute to strengthening the relations between the ministries of defense of Montenegro and Greece through activities and projects of mutual interest.
Markopulos also met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanović.
“The interlocutors discussed the enhancement of military-military cooperation between the Armed Forces of Montenegro and the Armed Forces of the Hellenic Republic, with a special focus on joint activities within NATO, the development of interoperability, training, and military education. Brigadier General Vuksanović thanked the Republic of Greece for its continuous support in developing the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, particularly through the education of Montenegrin cadets at Greek military academies and contributions to the protection of Montenegro’s airspace,” the Ministry of Defense stated.
Colonel Markopulos emphasized that, within his mandate, he will be dedicated to further strengthening military cooperation between the two allied states, with the belief that there is significant room for improving joint activities.
