The emergency medical service unit in Plužine has received a new field ambulance and a laboratory diagnostic device for rapid analysis of complete blood count (CBC), CRP, troponin, and D-dimer. The field ambulance will enable the emergency team in Plužine to reach the most remote and hard-to-access parts of the municipality more quickly.

The value of the vehicle amounts to 115,536.85 euros, of which 65,000 euros is secured from the capital budget by the decision of the Government of Montenegro, 30,000 euros as a donation from the Municipality of Plužine, and 20,536.85 euros from the own funds of the Emergency Medical Service of Montenegro. The laboratory diagnostic device with reagents, worth 16,093 euros, was secured from the institution’s own funds.

The Minister of Health of Montenegro, Vojislav Šimun, handed over the keys of the new field vehicle to the director of the Emergency Medical Service, Dr. Vuk Niković. The handover was also attended by the president of the Municipality of Plužine, Slobodan Delić, the director of the Directorate for Health Protection and Regulated Professions in the Ministry of Health, Ljiljana Vujisić, and the assistant director of the Emergency Medical Service, Dr. Miloš Šaponjić.

Šimun emphasized that today’s handover of the new field ambulance vehicle and modern laboratory diagnostic device sends a clear message that the quality of health care must not be determined by geography.

“This investment is not an isolated example but part of a much broader vision for the development of Montenegrin healthcare. In the previous period, twenty emergency medical units have been adapted or opened across Montenegro, more than thirty new ambulances have been procured, modern laboratory and ultrasound diagnostics have been introduced, and medical and IT equipment has been modernized, while telemedicine, system networking, and capacities to respond to the most complex health challenges are further enhanced through European projects,” said Šimun.

The director of the Emergency Medical Service, Dr. Vuk Niković, presented certificates of appreciation to the president of the Municipality of Plužine and Ms. Danica Vuković Krivokapić, who donated funds for the new equipment. Niković stated that in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, investments in emergency medical services are being made evenly across all municipalities in Montenegro. He emphasized that it was necessary to improve health care in the units in the northern part of the country.

“I am proud that today we can provide modern and adequate emergency medical assistance to the residents of Plužine and tourists. I am grateful to the Ministry of Health and the Government of Montenegro, as well as to the Municipality of Plužine and individuals who helped us elevate health care to a higher level and allocated funds for the procurement of the field ambulance that was essential for Plužine, as well as for other northern municipalities,” said Niković.

The president of the Municipality of Plužine, Slobodan Delić, stated that modernly equipped emergency medical assistance means a lot to the residents of Plužine.

“It is a great thing that the state invests in small municipalities because without quality health care we cannot fight the main problem of an increasingly poor demographic picture. As the president of the municipality, I am open to any cooperation in the field of improving health care and investing in health,” said Delić.

The minister and the director also visited the emergency medical unit in Danilovgrad, which was adapted in December last year and now has ultrasound and laboratory diagnostics. The ultrasound diagnostic device worth 2,700 euros without VAT, as well as the ultrasound machine worth 9,350 euros without VAT, were secured from the own funds of the Emergency Medical Service of Montenegro.

The Minister of Health, Vojislav Šimun, announced that emergency medical doctors and selected doctors have completed the POCUS program for orientation ultrasound, which is part of the reform of the Ministry of Health. The ultrasound diagnostic device is also available in emergency units in Podgorica, Bar, Budva, Ulcinj, Berane, Bijelo Polje, and Žabljak.
