China has introduced new export control measures affecting 40 Japanese companies, citing that they contribute to the "remilitarization" of Japan, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

According to a decision from Beijing, 20 companies, including Mitsui E&S, have been added to the dual-use product monitoring list, which includes goods that can be used for both civilian and military purposes, reports B92.

Chinese companies exporting to these firms will need to seek special permits, submit risk assessments, and provide written guarantees that the products will be used for civilian purposes.

Another 20 Japanese companies, which were already on the monitoring list, have now been placed on a stricter control list.

Among the affected companies are also divisions of Mitsubishi.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that the measures are „justified, reasonable, and legal“ and that their aim is to deter Japan from „new militarism.“

Additional military moves have already been recorded in the region, including the deployment of Japanese Type-12 missile systems on Minamitorishima Island, in response to increased Chinese military presence in the Pacific.
