Mirković: We Balkans are very talented, you see Jokić, Dončić...

Young Montenegrin basketball player David Mirković gave a statement to Telegraf Sport immediately after Illinois' defeat to Yukon (71:62) in the semifinals of the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis.

"We didn't win the title, but we made history. After 21 years, Coach Brad Underwood took Illinois to the Final Four - that's a huge accomplishment," Mirkovic began.

He particularly highlighted the help he received from his teammates from the Balkans in adapting to the American basketball style.

“Andrej Stojaković helped me a lot, he's been here since he was 13 and knows everyone. Then Tomislav and Zvonimir, who speak my language and have college experience”.

I would recommend all young players to come to college in America.

“Honestly, coming here is a much, much better option. Only Partizan, Mega and SC Derbi give young people a chance if you are really good. Here you have a top organization, conditions and you can develop both as a basketball player and as a person. People in the Balkans are not aware of how good an opportunity this is”, said the 20-year-old power forward.

Mirković hopes that next season's Final Four will feature even more players from the Balkans.

"We have talent, you see Jokić, Dončić and the others. I hope the coaching staff will continue to bring in players from our region", concluded David Mirković.
