Increased controls on Lake Skadar: Irregularities found on nine vessels

The Border Police and the Port Captaincy of Bar conducted a two-day operation on Lake Skadar and the Morača River over the weekend, focusing on the safety of individuals being transported by vessels, during which irregularities were found on a total of nine vessels. Legal sanctions will follow, said the Police Administration.

„Officials of the Regional Border Police Center ‘Center’, together with inspectors from the Port Authority of Bar, conducted an intensified action to control persons and vessels in the area of the Skadar Lake aquatorium and in the Morača River canal over the past two days, June 27 and 28, 2026, aimed at preventive action and combating all forms of illegal activities on the water, with a special emphasis on the safety of persons being transported by vessels,“ said the police.

They add that police officers and inspectors from the Port Authority conducted checks on vessels in traffic on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, during which irregularities were found on six vessels, for which the persons operating the vessels will face sanctions under the jurisdiction of the Port Authority of Bar. In addition, one citizen of Montenegro was found without personal documents, for which he was issued a misdemeanor order to pay a fine, in accordance with Article 29, paragraph 1, item 1 of the Law on Personal Identification Cards.

„During the following day, yesterday, Sunday, June 28, 2026, police officers and inspectors from the Port Authority conducted checks in the Skadar Lake aquatorium – in the area of Virpazar, the Crnojevića River canal, and Karuč, while from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM, intensified checks on vessels continued in the Morača River canal area. During yesterday’s checks, irregularities were recorded on three vessels – 2 jet skis and one speedboat. In all three cases, sanctions were imposed by the Port Authority of Bar,“ said the police.

The goal of the joint activities, as they say, of the Police Administration and the Port Authority is to prevent all forms of cross-border crime and illegal activities on the water, as well as to control compliance with legal conditions necessary for operating vessels and putting vessels into operation in accordance with prescribed rules, which applies to both the persons operating the vessels and the technical conditions that vessels must meet to be safely used and transport persons in water traffic.
