"As a doctor and as the President of the Capital City Assembly, I would like to point out that autism is a challenge, but it is not an insurmountable obstacle. The real challenge arises when society does not recognize the needs, when it does not understand and when it does not provide equal opportunities. Therefore, it is our responsibility to create an environment in which children will have the opportunity to develop their potential," Borovinić Bojović emphasized in her opening speech.
The introductory part of the conference was addressed by Damir Gutić, Minister of Social Welfare, Family Care and Demography, Siniša Bjeković, Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro, Marko Kovačević, President of the Municipality of Nikšić, and Dražen Petrić, President of the Committee for Health, Labor and Social Welfare.
The President of the Assembly pointed out the importance of a coordinated and responsible approach, in which the cooperation of all relevant stakeholders is key to creating an inclusive society.
"It is our obligation to build a system in which support, understanding and cooperation are the rule, not the exception," said the president.
The attendees were also addressed by MPs, as well as representatives of institutions and the non-governmental sector, who had the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
The conference was an opportunity to once again emphasize the importance of a systemic and coordinated approach in creating a society in which no child is marginalized, but has the opportunity to grow, learn, and be accepted.
