Farmers and milk processors in front of the Ministry tomorrow: Joković did not fulfill his promise

Farmers and milk processors have announced a new protest in front of the Ministry of Agriculture for tomorrow at 11 am, dissatisfied because the promise made five days ago that the purchase of milk from small producers would continue and that milk would be sent to Serbia for processing has not been fulfilled.

As recalled by the Farmers' Association of Montenegro and the Danilovgrad Livestock Breeders' Association, on April 24, 2026, an emergency meeting was held at the MAFWM due to the cessation of milk purchases from farmers who produce up to 100 liters per day, and it was then agreed to continue further milk purchases and exports to Serbia, where it would be pasteurized and packaged in tetrapaks, and then returned to Montenegro.

"This agreement did not come to fruition, because Minister Vladimir Joković did not keep his word, he did not obtain permits for the implementation of this agreement, although we received a public promise at the meeting and afterwards. The survival and existence of 400 affected farmers due to the crisis in the dairy sector is still questionable, and in the coming days we expect the suspension of larger milk producers as well," they said in a statement.

Tomorrow, they will request an urgent resolution of the situation on behalf of the Ministry. They emphasize that this is not the first time that Montenegrin agricultural producers have been on the brink of collapse in the last decade, due to irresponsible and incompetent people running one of the largest departments in the country.

"We apologize to the milk producers whom we are inviting to tomorrow's gathering in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, because due to the urgency of the situation and the upcoming non-working days, a quick and adequate reaction is needed, both from milk producers and buyers," they emphasized in a joint statement signed by Vlado Lakić on behalf of the Farmers' Association of Montenegro and Milan Iković on behalf of the Danilovgrad Livestock Breeders' Association.
