The session of the Board of Directors of the Basketball Association of Montenegro was held last night in Podgorica. At the session, the selectors for most of the younger age categories, which will have international competitions next summer, were appointed. At the session, the Board of Directors adopted the propositions and competition systems for all leagues for the 2026/27 season, as well as the Rules of Procedure of the Board of Directors.

When it comes to coaching decisions, in the men's competition, the young national team will be led by Ivan Jelenic, assistant coach of Mornar Barski Zlat and former member of the coaching staff of the Montenegrin men's junior national team. Given that the U-20 selection will not have a competition under the auspices of FIBA this summer, Jelenić will form a combined national team, with young players and several senior national team members, which will participate in an international tournament in China from July 22 to 28.

He was elected as the coach of the junior national team (U18) Petar Mijovic, the current coach of the senior team of SC Derbi. Mijović, in addition to his success in senior club basketball, has extensive experience in working with younger categories in his career, in Buducnost, SC Derbi, but also in the selections of Montenegro, Albania and Iraq. This summer, the junior national team will compete in the European Championship B Division in Rijeka, from July 24 to August 2, and its rivals in the group are Croatia, Switzerland, Norway and Romania.

The cadet national team will be led during the summer Milos Radovic, who successfully leads the selection of players under 16 in Budućnost Volija. At the club level, in addition to the cadets, Radović also led the juniors, with whom he was the champion of Montenegro. From September 1, the cadets will take over Bojan Bakic, former coach of the pioneer national team, with whom he won the prestigious international tournament "Slovenia ball" in 2022, the unofficial European championship for that age group. Bakić won the Montenegrin championship title without defeat this season with the senior juniors of SC Derbija, and he also led that generation in the senior competition within the First A League. This summer, the cadet selection will compete at the B European Championship in Skopje, from 6 to 15 August, and Montenegro is in a group with Portugal, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Ireland.

In the women's competition, he was chosen as the coach of the youth national team. Petar Stojanovic, coach of the Buducnost Bemax women's basketball team and former coach of the cadet and junior national teams, who will now continue to lead that generation of players in the U20 competition. In the cadet age group, the selection led by Stojanović earned a place in the A division, and in the junior age group, it won the B European Championship. The young national team, which is returning to competitions after two years, will be competing in the B European Championship this summer, from July 4 to 12 in Samokov, Bulgaria, in a group with Portugal and Switzerland.

Only the women's junior national team has not yet received a coach, but that solution will also be presented soon. This summer, the juniors will be our only selection that will compete in the A division, at the European Women's U18 Championship, from August 1 to 9 in Stockholm, where their rivals in the group will be Spain, Slovenia and Turkey.
