"Sharks" sink Kazakhstan with a furious start

The Montenegrin water polo team convincingly defeated Kazakhstan 27:6 (7:0, 8:2, 5:2, 7:2) at the start of the World Cup qualifying tournament in Malta.

A routine triumph for Dejan Savić's team was expected, and the match was decided halfway through the second quarter when the scoreboard read 13:0. As the match continues, the only question is by what margin it will end...

All players scored, except for Jovan Vujović and of course the goalkeeping pair.

The most efficient player was Strahinja Gojković with five goals. Balša Vučković scored one less, Aljoša Mačić and Miroslav Perković added three each, Đuro Radović, Srđan Janović, returnee Aleksa Ukropina and Nikola Moskov each scored two goals, while Vasilije Radović scored once.

The "Sharks" will face Argentina tomorrow (5pm), and to end the first phase, they will meet Great Britain on Thursday (4.30pm).

After the introductory phase of the competition, a single table of all 24 participants will be formed, in accordance with a new ranking system that takes into account results, goal difference and the strength of the opponent.

The top 16 teams will advance to the elimination phase, followed by the round of 16 matches.

Montenegro's goal is to qualify for the final World Cup tournament, which will be held in Sydney at the end of July.
