"In particular, we will not allow a landfill to be built in the Steelworks, which was returned to state ownership through the painstaking efforts of the Dritan Abazović government. It is time to put an end to the practice of Nikšić bearing the burden of harmful and risky projects, while decisions are made without real consideration of the wishes and views of the local community. Plans like the one proposed for the Steelworks require full transparency, the involvement of the professional public and, above all, the consent of citizens - which is clearly lacking in this case," said the Nikšić URE.
They remind us that for years we have been hearing fabulous development plans from this same government, represented by Minister Joković – from the "Sunny City", to modern industries and drone factories, to large investments that were supposed to revive Nikšić. Adding that today we have come to the conclusion that instead of the aforementioned development and new values, the citizens of Nikšić are presented with the idea of a facility that threatens the environment and the quality of life of citizens.
"A logical question arises: how is it possible that, in the same area and at the same time, in addition to elite settlements, shopping centers and development projects, facilities that carry serious environmental risks are planned? Is this really a development plan or simply an admission that nothing has been promised? If the minister believes that this is a safe and useful project, we suggest that its implementation be considered at the Boričje location in Piva, where the minister himself comes from. This would demonstrate personal responsibility and confidence in his own claims about the safety of this facility," the Nikšić-based ERO said.
They concluded that Nikšić is not and will not be a landfill, nor an experimental zone, for projects whose consequences may be unforeseeable, calling on the competent institutions to immediately suspend all activities related to this project until all relevant information, impact studies, and clear plans are presented to the public.
