In the "Five for a Flower" campaign, almost two thousand plastic bottles were collected in just one hour. Although this is, according to the organizers, more than last year, they point out that the recycling rate in Montenegro is very low.
"Of course, there is progress and actions like this are yielding results, but without the synergy of citizens, institutions and NGOs, we will not be able to raise awareness to the level it needs to be. What is necessary is to provide citizens with the infrastructure and a way to dispose of packaging, without that we will not find a solution," said Jelena Rakčević from Zeleni Talas.
They remind that citizens of the Capital City have the opportunity to recycle at multiple locations, and the Green Point application is also available.
"I would like to take this opportunity to invite viewers to download the app and visit our recycling center. For each piece of packaging, they get one point and can exchange those points for prizes, discount vouchers, etc.," Rakčević points out.
The Green Wave organization says that they plan to expand their activities throughout Montenegro, especially to the north.
The citizens we met in University Park say they are happy to respond to such actions.
