The Ambassador Cruise Line ship arrived from Belfast and Liverpool, and local health services have decided to introduce preventive measures until medical analyses and an assessment of the epidemiological situation are completed, according to "MiamiHerald„.
According to French media, there are around 1,700 people on the cruise ship, including passengers and crew, while one person reportedly died during the voyage.
Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the cause of death, but stressed that there is currently no evidence to suggest a connection with recent cases of hantavirus registered on another cruise ship, the Hondius, which was sailing between Argentina and the Canary Islands.
Enhanced sanitary measures on board
Ambassador Cruise Line announced that enhanced sanitation protocols and disinfection measures were implemented throughout the ship immediately after the symptoms appeared.
In a post on social media, they stated that they were cooperating with French health authorities and that passengers would be allowed to disembark as soon as the ship received official approval from the relevant authorities.
"We have immediately activated additional cleaning and prevention measures to protect the health of passengers and crew," the company said.
They added that the situation is under control and that the medical team on board is monitoring the condition of all passengers who are showing symptoms.
