MOD FEST is the only film festival in Montenegro dedicated to the topics of minorities, identities and social differences, and this year it is recording record interest - as many as 883 films from all over the world were submitted to the competition, of which 12 were selected for the festival program.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for April 23rd at 8 pm at the Montenegrin Cinematheque, where the audience will have the opportunity to watch the films "Architecture of Hope" (Germany/Spain), "The Roots" (Slovenia), "Street of Hope" (Serbia) and "The Champ" (Albania).
The festival is also given special value by the guests who come to Podgorica. The opening will be attended by the producer of the film "Architecture of Hope" Hedi Bowden, the director of the film "The Roots" Miona Racić, as well as the young actress Nergis Nikprelaj from the film "The Champ", who will talk to the audience after the screenings.
On the second day of the festival, April 24, the program continues with film screenings at two locations, as well as through accompanying content - a panel discussion on the topic "The Wealth of Diversity: How Film and Culture Preserve Heritage", as well as a masterclass to be held by Hedi Bowden, a producer from Germany, and Lua Lopez Ribes, a director from Spain.
The festival program will also feature films from the international selection, including "ELVIS, My Neighbor" (BiH/Serbia/USA), "Living with the Taliban" (Poland), "Between Salt and Sky" (Bolivia/Brazil/Chile), as well as works from the region and Europe that address important themes of identity, belonging, and contemporary society.
The festival is being implemented with the support of the Secretariat for Culture of the Capital City of Podgorica, the Center for the Preservation and Development of Minority Culture of Montenegro (CEKUM) and the Council of the Muslim People of Montenegro, while the Montenegrin Cinematheque is the host of the festival. The festival is also supported by partners – Lovćen Insurance, Medicor, Nativa and Pontera.
MOD FEST grows and develops year after year as a platform that, through film, encourages dialogue, understanding, and visibility of diversity in contemporary society.
All programs are open to the public and admission is free.
