Police officers from the Police Intervention Unit yesterday acted upon information that firearms had been used in the Donji Kokoti neighborhood, after which they urgently headed to that part of the city. While inspecting the area, in the immediate vicinity of a poultry farm, police officers heard gunshots.
Upon arrival at the scene, a person named BR (43) from Podgorica was found, who at that moment confirmed to police officers that he had used a firearm. A "Crvena Zastava" hunting rifle with ammunition was found on the tin roof of the farm building, which was later determined to be in illegal possession of this person.
After conducting a search of the wider scene, police officers found four spent hunting rifle cartridges, as well as two shot dogs.
IJ (18), a citizen of the Republic of Serbia, employed at the aforementioned farm, was also found at the scene.
The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was informed of the event, who ordered an autopsy of the shot dogs, and the individuals were brought to the official premises of the Podgorica Security Department to collect information.
In further activities, police officers searched the house of BR's relative – DR – and found another rifle in illegal possession.
After the criminal investigation was conducted, on the order of the acting prosecutor, BR was deprived of liberty on suspicion of having committed the criminal offenses of killing and torturing animals and destroying their habitat in conjunction with the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives, while DR was deprived of liberty on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives.
Also, a check on IJ determined that he did not have a registered residence in Montenegro, after which he was deprived of his liberty in accordance with the Law on Foreigners.
