"The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness among citizens about respecting the legal obligation to use seat belts in all places in vehicles where belts are installed, as well as the mandatory use of safety seats for transporting children," the police point out.
This action will include a preventive and educational campaign and the taking of repressive measures, which traffic police officers will take during its duration.
"The preventive and educational campaign will include the distribution of 10,000 flyers by police officers to citizens - road users, while as part of the repressive measures, Police Directorate officers will record violations in this area and warn and sanction the perpetrators," they said in a statement.
They emphasize that compliance with the provisions of the Road Traffic Safety Law regarding the use of seat belts by drivers and passengers in a vehicle, whether they are transported in the front or back seats, is of exceptional, and in not a small number of cases, crucial importance, since it is the seat belt that can save lives.
"Therefore, we would like to point out that the aforementioned provisions of the Law stipulate that the driver and passengers in a motor vehicle in which they are installed, or where there are places for installing seat belts, are obliged to use a seat belt in road traffic in the manner prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer, and that a child up to five years of age must be transported in a safety seat, or a basket that is attached to the vehicle with a seat belt or special buckles in the vehicle, unless it is a vehicle for public passenger transport," the police said.
They appeal to citizens to be responsible, to adapt their driving to road conditions, and to use seat belts for their own safety and that of other road users.
