Yesterday, citizens massively applied to the Eco Fund's competition, which allowed them to hand in up to three old electrical appliances, for which they could receive one hundred euros per device.
"To our great satisfaction, we can definitely say that in a few hours, that is, the first part of the day, the public competition was closed, and that citizens took over all available codes that were within the budget foreseen for this activity," said the Deputy Director of the Eco Fund, Nemanja Peković.
However, the Eco Fund says that downloading the code does not automatically mean receiving a subsidy. A detailed check will follow.
"Citizens are required to submit the photos that were part of the application submission, the code they received, to the landfill, where a physical analysis of the received code will be performed, that is, the photos contained in it and the actual condition. It may happen that the application does not correspond to what was actually submitted to the landfill, so the applications will have the subsidy amount reduced or will be eliminated completely," said Peković.
Controls are also being carried out administratively, and abuses will, they say, be sanctioned.
"If it happened that someone intended to use a photo of a device from the previous public competition to try to pass this public competition, such applications will be detected because we have developed certain advanced tools that detect such types of incoming requests," said Peković.
Codes for around 1,600 devices were downloaded by 693 citizens from 21 municipalities.
"In the previous period, we collected 277 tons of this type of waste, meaning 5,000 citizens were eligible for subsidies, and 6,000 devices found their place in the landfill until this public competition," Peković pointed out.
The Eco Fund says that any unused money will be made available to citizens again, with an appeal to regularly monitor their website.
