Brković: Support and protection from discrimination for members of the Army

United Montenegro councilor in the Assembly of the Capital City of Podgorica, Milivoje Brković, said in a press release that a young member of the Montenegrin Army found himself at the center of media attention, open aggression, and even calls for lynching, simply because, as he claims, he sang the chorus of a song that "almost the entire Serbian people proudly sing in honor of the legendary General of the United Montenegro Army, Draža Mihailović, the first rebel against fascism in enslaved Europe."

"This harmless act suddenly mobilized all the factors whose only common denominator is hatred for everything Serbian. From the same trench, they are calling for accountability and attacking the innocent young man, inciting his persecution by old anti-Serbian activists: the so-called independent media, European-minded MPs who returned from a loan from the DPS, Islamic religious officials who supported and approved the recent persecution of the Serbian Orthodox Church, corrupt officials of the Bosniak Party who are left only to adopt pets from the state budget... For all of them, it is not acceptable or permissible for a member of a military formation to sing an anti-fascist song in Montenegro. But it is more than desirable to glorify the followers of the Handžar Division, pay tribute to criminals from the so-called KLA terrorist organization, celebrate every Serbian suffering," said Brković.

As he claims, the proven team of stormtroopers against the Serbs cannot understand that the time of totalitarianism is over, "and that we will all sing songs about our heroes, without asking permission from the modern agas and beys, who remained stuck in the time before the Balkan Wars."

"I also emphasize that the courtly behavior of the current Government and the relevant Ministry is contemptible, which, for the sake of peace in the disorganized ruling coalition, is ready to leave a man who has not committed any offense against the law without a job, and thus without basic means of livelihood. I remind you that this is a classic example of discrimination on the basis of nationality, which is why I call for the persecuted member of the Army of Montenegro to be provided with appropriate institutional and legal protection," said Brković.

As a reminder, the MoD's response states that the competent services of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Montenegro were informed of the video recording showing a soldier singing verses dedicated to the Chetnik commander Draža Mihailović even before the video was published in the media, and the fact-finding procedure was initiated before his appearance in public.

"There is no place in the Montenegrin Army for politicization, extremism, glorification of crime, nationalistic or ideological provocations. Every member of the Army is obliged to perform his service honorably, professionally, politically neutrally and in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Montenegro," they said in a response.

The head of the Islamic Community of Montenegro, Rifat Fejzić, announced that Montenegro "cannot have a fascist army if it is a civil state."

"I ask those responsible to punish this most severely or to sing with them in the choir, so that we know who is bringing them and educating them," Reis Fejzić posted on the X network.
