Kaspar Ruud continued his campaign to defend his title at the Madrid Masters, after overcoming Stefanos Tsitsipas in three tiebreaks - 6:7 (4), 7:6 (2), 7:6 (3) and advancing to the quarterfinals.

The match lasted exactly three hours, and only two breaks were seen in the entire duel (both in the third set).

Tsitsipas, currently ranked 80th in the world, has a lot to regret, as he wasted two match points in the deciding set.

The Greek won the first tie-break in his favor 7:4, while the Norwegian responded even more convincingly in the second – 7:2.

In the deciding set, Tsitsipas broke at 2:2. Leading 5:3, the former world number three missed two tied match points on his opponent's serve, or rather, Ruud saved them with a great forehand, or rather serve. After that, the defending champion returned the break and fought for another tiebreak, in which he celebrated with a score of 7:3.

Rud will play the winner of the match between Francisco Serundolo and Alexander Blok in the quarterfinals.
