"The thousand-year-old Montenegrin state-building tradition has its foundations precisely in Bar, where the first Montenegrin state of Duklja was established with the Battle of Tuđemili. Throughout history, Bar has been the backbone of Montenegro's development, its gateway to the world, the oldest center of all religious communities, dynasties and traditions, but also the engine of modernization and European development of the country," the statement states.
That is precisely why, as they say, the local government of the Municipality of Bar strongly inherits the kind of culture that today makes Bar a place to live, a city open to all people but firmly founded on civic spirit, togetherness, and everything that makes modern Montenegro.
"On the occasion of the Independence Day celebration itself, a series of concerts will be organized for citizens and guests. On May 21, regional stars "Dubioza Kolektiv" and the Montenegrin group "Who See" will perform, on May 22, we can expect a performance by Bar's "Akademija" and the evergreen group "Parni valjak", while on May 23, the program will be adapted for young citizens when DJ Marko Milanović will perform, as well as European DJ stars from Germany and Turkey Tom Novy and Burak Yeter," the statement said.
The program marking 20 years since the restoration of Montenegro's independence includes literary and art competitions for the youngest citizens on the topics of Montenegrin statehood and historical continuity so that new generations correctly understand the significance of this date, and the best works will be awarded. Also, for Bar students, a traditional knowledge quiz "How much do I know Montenegro" will be organized, while a student from the Faculty of Political Sciences will organize a series of debates entitled "Twenty Years Under My Own Sky - From Dream to Reality" in Stari Bar on the topics of cultural and historical continuity, constitutionalism, international relations, and Montenegrin sports.
The forum marking the 230th anniversary of the adoption of the first Montenegrin legislative act, Stega, is organized by the Association of Lawyers and "Stega", and will bring together representatives of the academic and professional public, academics, and professors.
They add that the Municipality of Bar, together with the "House of Olives" and the "Latinsko jedro" sailing club, is organizing a multimedia multi-day event, where, after an expert meeting, the promotion of a monograph on olive growing and a photo exhibition on the connection between shipbuilding and olive growing, a regatta will be held under the traditional name "Sails of the Adriatic - A Combination of Tradition and Unity".
"The Municipality of Bar, or rather the Organizing Committee, has chosen a special visual identity for this event that best represents the spirit of this anniversary. The logo-visual for the 20th anniversary of the restoration of independence was donated to the Municipality free of charge by the respected Montenegrin journalist Duško Mihailović, and it will be used as the official logo of the Municipality on the occasion of the celebration of 20 years since the restoration of independence," they conclude in the statement.
