Speaking to Fox News, Trump said Iran cannot decide which ships can pass through the strait, saying either all ships must have safe passage or none.
"We will not allow Iran to make money by selling oil to people who suit them," Trump said. "It will be all or nothing, and that's how it will be," he added.
"I can destroy Iran in one day"
Trump said the blockade would be similar to the one the US previously imposed on Venezuela, but on a larger scale, suggesting that it could lead to more tankers coming to the US to buy oil.
He also reiterated the threat of attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure.
"I could destroy Iran in one day... I could destroy all their energy, everything, every one of their facilities, power plants, which is a big deal," he said.
