Orban speaks out and admits defeat in the elections

– The election result is clear. I congratulated Peter Magađar, and This result is painful for Fidesz. – said Orban.

He points out that his Fidesz party has never worked so hard in any election campaign, thanks to the 2.5 million people who voted, and promises to "never disappoint them."

– We will serve our country and the Hungarian nation from the opposition. – said Orban.

He said that the citizens of Hungary can count on Fidesz.

– What the result means for the fate of our country and nation, and what its deeper or higher meaning is, we do not know now, time will tell. We, as the opposition, will serve our country and the Hungarian nation – said Orban.

Based on 60.24 percent of votes counted in the parliamentary elections in Hungary, according to preliminary results from the National Electoral Commission (VTR):

  • The opposition party Tisa won 136 out of 199 seats in parliament.
  • Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party won 56 seats.

According to these results, Tisa won 95 parliamentary seats through direct election of candidates, while 41 deputies were won through the party's electoral list.

Election results in Hungary

The coalition of Fidesz and the Christian Democratic People's Party won 45 seats on the basis of electoral lists and 11 directly. The far-right Our Homeland (Mi Hazank) party won seven seats. Parliamentary elections in Hungary were held today, and a record 77.8 percent of voters had voted by 6:30 p.m.
