Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on other countries to join the fight against Iran, citing recent missile attacks as evidence of a growing global threat.

Speaking at the site of a rocket attack in the southern Israeli city of Arad, Netanyahu said recent events show that Iran poses a threat far beyond the region.

"If you want proof that Iran is threatening the entire world, the last 48 hours have given it to you," he said. "They now have the ability to reach deep into Europe," he said.

"They're targeting everyone," he continued.

Missiles towards Diego Garcia

Netanyahu pointed to Iran's launch of a missile aimed at the Diego Garcia military base in the Indian Ocean, run by the US and the UK, about 4,000 kilometers from Iran.

Iranian state television said on Saturday that two ballistic missiles had been fired at the base. US media reported that one failed in flight and the other was intercepted.

Threat to maritime routes

Netanyahu accused Tehran of trying to disrupt global trade routes, including threatening shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

"They are stopping the international maritime route, the energy route, and trying to blackmail the entire world," he said.

Calling for broader international involvement, Netanyahu added: "What more proof do you need that this regime that threatens the entire world must be stopped? Israel and the United States are working together for the entire world. And it is time to see the leaders of other countries join in."

The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to respond with missile and drone strikes on Israel and US-allied countries in the region.
