He was defeated by his compatriot and namesake Beretina at the score of 7:5, 5:2 due to a left leg injury.
Berrettini entered the match furiously, taking a 3-0 lead with a double break. However, Arnaldi responded with four games in a row to turn the game around to 4-3, then won the opening set 7-5.
Arnaldi took a 2-0 lead in the second set, Berrettini broke back to reduce the lead to 2-1. After that, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist requested medical attention, but it did not help him. He was struggling to move and then at 5-2 his boxing asked him to surrender the match, which he did.

Next up is grass and Wimbledon, so Berrettini probably didn't want to risk aggravating the injury. The Italian has had a number of injuries throughout his career, which is why he is currently outside the Top 100.
Berettini thus failed to reach the semifinals of the second Grand Slam of the season for the first time in his career, but repeated his success from 2021.
Arnaldi, on the other hand, will play in the semifinals with another compatriot, Flavio Cobolli, who earlier eliminated Felix Auger-Aliassime 3:1.
In the second semi-final, Alexander Zverev and Jakub Menshick will face off.
Both semi-finals are scheduled for Friday.
