Although he did not confirm that a decision to invade had been made, Defrin stressed that such an option remains open.
Evacuation of more than 50 villages
Defrin pointed out that the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of more than 50 villages in southern Lebanon overnight, amid the intensification of the conflict.
According to him, the IDF has already eliminated several high-ranking Hezbollah commanders, including targets in Beirut, and carried out attacks on dozens of other positions of the organization.
Qassem in the Israeli army's "sight"
Minutes after Defrin's press conference ended, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem was now a direct target of the Israeli military.
Qassem previously gave a televised address during a rally in support of Iran and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
IDF continues attacks
The sources are for "Jerusalem Post" stated that although Hezbollah did not hit targets in Israel in its night attacks, the Israeli military does not consider the initial reaction to be a sufficient response.
According to these allegations, the IDF plans to continue its strikes on Hezbollah and will not be satisfied with just the first wave of attacks, further increasing the risk of a broader escalation of the conflict on the Israeli-Lebanese border.
