Iran has sent a new peace proposal to the United States via Pakistan, aiming to end the war within 30 days, and plans to transform the existing ceasefire into a permanent peace. Details of Iran's latest three-phase plan are reported by Al Jazeera.

Details of the peace plan

According to the sources, the Iranian plan consists of three main phases. The proposal also includes a non-aggression pact, which would also apply to Israel, to prevent a return to conflict and end fighting throughout the Middle East. The first phase would gradually open the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US blockade of Iranian ports, while Tehran would take responsibility for removing sea mines.

Tehran's demands and the American reaction

The latest Iranian proposal, composed of 14 points, is a response to the US's nine-point plan. According to the semi-official Nour News agency, which is close to Iranian security services, Tehran is demanding that the US lift sanctions, end the naval blockade, withdraw US forces from the region and cease all hostilities, including the Israeli war in Lebanon.

Although US President Trump rejected the Iranian proposal last week, talks have continued, and the fragile three-week ceasefire appears to still be respected.

In the midst of renewed diplomatic efforts, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke today with his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi. Oman, it should be recalled, mediated in earlier rounds of negotiations between the US and Iran before the outbreak of war.
