Legendary Lukas Podolski ends his career in an ideal way – his Gornik Zabrze defeated Rakow 2:0 in the Polish Cup final and won their first trophy in more than five decades.

The club from Zabrze waited 54 years for a trophy in this competition, while the last trophy was won in 1988. Podolski, who returned to his homeland in 2021, fulfilled his promise to bring success to the team.

"When I came here, I said that in three to five years we would win something. But for it to happen in my last season... It's incredible! The cup is ours!" said the emotional footballer who will soon turn 41.

The former Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Inter player has since become a co-owner of the club, and with the trophy won, Gornik has also secured a place in the Europa League qualifiers.
