On his way to the title, Novo was free at the start of the 90 kg category to defeat Oskar Rogalski from Poland in the second round. To enter the semifinals, he was better than the representative of France, Lucas Duchausoy. In the semifinals, he also got better than the Frenchman Jason Okoye, and in the final match, he defeated another naturalized Frenchman, Aleksa Mitrović, the bronze medalist from the World Junior Championships.
By winning first place, Novo Raičević gained a significant 100 points for the Olympic and World rankings.
Danilo Pantić also had an excellent performance, reaching the semifinals where he was stopped by Dutchman Schel Joss and in the fight for bronze by Michal Jedrzejewski from Poland.
