Radovan Kavaja's team, who made history in Montenegrin football two months ago by qualifying for a major competition, showed their character and fighting spirit once again tonight. The "Falcons" left their hearts on the field, putting up a good fight against their favored rival, but despite a great fight, they failed to reach the historic point.
The Scandinavians took the lead in the 20th minute. After a long ball, Mikel Bro Hansen avoided offside, blocked himself and managed to take advantage of the confusion in our defense and from about 10-12 meters hit the net of the goal guarded by Simon Sošić.
Shortly afterwards, our team asked for a penalty after Nikola Vukoje was brought down from behind, but referee Konstantinos Felas did not award the harshest penalty.
However, in the 38th minute, the Falcons equalized. It was a great team effort and transition by Lazar Popović and his teammates. It all started with a mistake by Denmark in the middle of the field, Vukoje pulled off a counterattack, employed Petar Vujović, who kept possession, sent the ball into the space for Marko Đokaj, who slipped it past Elias Hansen.
Midway through the second half, Denmark created three big chances in five minutes, but Sošić was up to the task twice, while Benjanim Nikolaisen missed a shot from close range.
Korlin's team came close to winning the game in the 76th minute. Meds Jorgensen broke through on the left, laid the ball off to Omran Katar who shot from the first, it seemed like it would be an easy goal for Sošić, but the ball went through his hands and ended up behind his back.
Five minutes before the end of the regular period, Montenegro could have equalized again, but Luka Vušurović's volley from ten meters was brilliantly blocked by Noa Madsen.
Earlier today in our group, Italy defeated France by a narrow margin.
Our national team will play their next match on Friday against Italy, and then on Monday they will face France to end the group stage.
The two best teams from the group advance to the semifinals.
