The Montenegrin Olympic Committee (MOC) continues to provide systemic support to athletes and national teams that have the potential to participate in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, confirming that athletes are at the center of the development of the national sports system, the statement said.

"The latest support relates to handball, as one of the most important team sports in
Montenegro. The aim of this four-year program is to provide the Montenegrin women's handball team with adequate conditions for preparation and participation in key international competitions, with a clear focus on qualification and participation in the upcoming Olympic Games. The support provided by the MOC relates to the financing of training camps, preparatory matches and other activities that are key to the systematic and continuous preparation of the team," they said in a statement.

They add that handball is the sport that has brought Montenegro its only Olympic medal so far, and as such represents an important pillar of identity and international recognition of our sport. Considering the historical value of this sport for Montenegro, investments in handball are of particular importance because they contribute to the continuous achievement of results and strengthen the potential for Montenegrin handball to be competitive in the next Olympic cycle.

"The President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dušan Simonović, emphasized: "For us, this program represents one of the key mechanisms for the development of team sports and their preparation for the Olympic cycle. Investing in handball is a natural and responsible choice, considering its importance for Montenegrin sport and the results that this sport has already brought to our country. Our Strategy clearly defines that athletes are at the center of the system. In practice, this means that we create conditions for quality, continuous and planned work, both in individual and team sports. It is precisely such programs that allow preparations not to take place ad hoc, but through a clearly structured process that leads to Olympic qualifications and top results," the statement states.

In addition to supporting handball through this program, the MOC has so far supported potential participants of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games through Olympic Solidarity programs and its own development mechanisms, providing Olympic scholarships in judo, sailing, boxing, swimming, athletics, taekwondo, tennis, shooting and gymnastics, as well as through two special development programs for individual athletes.

They also remind that in the cycle of preparations for the Winter Olympic Games, support was provided for five Montenegrin competitors through annual Olympic scholarships to cover training costs, coaches, medical support, insurance, accommodation and food, pocket money, as well as travel to international competitions and qualifications for the Winter Olympics.

"In this way, MOC confirms its strategic approach to the development of sports, which includes balanced and targeted support for both individual athletes and teams, with a clear focus on long-term results and sustainable development of the sports system in Montenegro."
"MOC remains committed to improving support models in the coming period, through the integration of science, medicine, technology and professional work, with the aim of creating a sustainable and efficient system that enables athletes and teams to achieve their full potential on the international stage," they concluded in a statement.
