The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team has qualified for the World Cup play-off final after defeating Wales in a penalty shootout in Cardiff tonight.

After 90 minutes and extra time, the score was tied (1:1), and in the penalty shootout, Sergej Barbarez's team had more concentration, winning 4:2.

The "wild card" of the BiH national team was the young Kerim Alajbegović, who brought energy with his entry, set up the equalizing goal for Edin Džeko and scored the decisive penalty.

The "Dragons" will play the decisive match for their place in the second World Cup in history on Tuesday in front of their fans in Zenica, where they will face Italy.

Craig Bellamy's team were the better opponent in the first hour of the game, and midway through the first half, the visiting "dragons" were very lucky after Harry Whislon shook the frame of the goal.

The home team deservedly took the lead in the 51st minute when Daniel James scored a fantastic goal from 25 meters diagonally from the right. True, Bosnia goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj was poorly positioned on that occasion, and slipped as a result.

Luck was Bosnia's ally and shortly after the home team's opening goal, the scorer of the only goal hit the crossbar.

BiH only started to play after the goal, and halfway through the second half they were very close to equalizing. Edin Džeko headed the ball to Ermedin Demirović, who fired a powerful header from five meters, but Karl Darlow made an unbelievable save to prevent a clean sheet.

A few minutes later, young reserve Kerim Alajbegović tried, but Darlow saved again. The same player threatened again ten minutes before the end of regulation, but his shot went just over the bar.

James had a chance to settle the score from a half-counterattack in the 83rd minute, but this time Vasilj emerged victorious from their duel.

The penalty came three minutes before the end of regulation. Alajbegović took a corner kick, Dalou swam into the empty net, and the "Dragons" captain Džeko, in his own style, headed the ball into the net.

In stoppage time, the Welsh threatened again, a huge crowd formed, but the guests somehow defended themselves.

The first chance in extra time was for the home team, specifically Harry Wilson, but Muharemović miraculously intervened with a header in front of his goalkeeper.

On the other side, Demirović had a solid situation, but his shot from the right side only hit the outside of the net.

Wales missed the opportunity to finish things off before the penalty shootout in stoppage time of the second extra time, when a player almost missed a throw-in into the penalty area.

This was followed by penalties, in which BiH did better.

Tabaković, Bašić, Hadžiahmetović and Alajbegović were accurate. Only Demirović missed in the first series (saved by Darlow). On the other hand, Wilson and Harris scored, and then Johnson missed the entire goal, while Williams' shot was stopped by Vasilj.

The Czech Republic also qualified for the play-off final after a penalty shootout, eliminating the Republic of Ireland in Prague.

After 90 and 120 minutes, the score was 2:2, and the penalty shootout went to the Czechs, who won 4:3.

The Republic of Ireland took the lead in the 19th minute through a penalty kick from the unstoppable Troy Perot, his sixth goal in his last three games for the national team.

Just four minutes later, the visiting team doubled their lead with an own goal by goalkeeper Matej Kovar.

However, 240 seconds later, the home team halved the deficit through captain Patrick Schick, who was safe from 11 meters.

The Czech Republic fully returned to the match in the 86th minute after Ladislav Krejči scored to make it 2:2.
