"Carlos Alcaraz has announced that he has withdrawn from the Barcelona tournament after having his right wrist examined this morning. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him on the court, where he will delight us with his tennis very soon," the tournament organizers said.
This means that his rival, Czech Tomaš Mahač, will advance to the quarterfinals without a fight, where he will await the winner of the Lorenzo Sonego – Andrei Rublev match.
Alcaraz will lose 280 points, as he reached the final last year, and missed the opportunity to return to the top spot on the ATP list with a title, which was taken over by Janik Siner this week after winning the Monte Carlo Masters.
