Family of victim of canopy collapse in Novi Sad to receive 10 million dinars in compensation

The Higher Court in Novi Sad ruled that "Serbian Railway Infrastructure" and the Republic of Serbia must jointly pay 10 million dinars to a family member of one of the 16 victims of the collapse of a canopy at the Railway Station in that city, with the right to appeal the verdict.

According to the verdict, the defendants, the Joint Stock Company for the Management of Public Railway Infrastructure "Railway Infrastructure of Serbia" Belgrade and the Republic of Serbia, are obliged to jointly and severally pay 10 million dinars to the family member of one of the victims of the collapse of a canopy at the Railway Station in that city as compensation for non-pecuniary damage for mental anguish suffered due to the death of a loved one.

In addition, they are obligated to jointly and severally reimburse the plaintiff for the costs of the litigation, it was announced on the court's website.

An appeal against this verdict is allowed to the Court of Appeal in Novi Sad.

When the canopy of the Novi Sad Railway Station collapsed on November 1, 2024, 16 people were killed and one was seriously injured.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad filed an indictment against 13 people, but the Higher Court in Novi Sad decided to suspend the proceedings against six people and confirm the indictment against seven people.
