New Serbian Democracy (NSD) MP Jovan Vučurović told RTCG that former Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović avoided confronting MPs before the Inquiry Committee, stating that, as a long-time holder of power, he had an obligation to answer questions about events and decisions from the period when he governed the country.

Vučurović said that he believed that Đukanović had a lot to say about the topics addressed by the Inquiry Committee, because, as he claims, he has been making key decisions in the country for decades.

"I think that Đukanović had a lot to say about the topics treated by the Inquiry Committee, because for decades he decided everything and everything depended on him in those times of evil of which he is the main symbol," said Vučurović.

He stated that Djukanovic will have the opportunity to explain what he knows and what he participated in before the competent institutions.

"What he knows, what he participated in, what he ordered or organized, he will certainly have the opportunity to explain to the competent institutions one day," said Vučurović.

He added that Đukanović's absence from the Inquiry Committee session was an attempt to avoid confronting MPs and the public.

Vučurović also assessed that the former president of our country had an obligation to appear in the Parliament and answer questions from MPs, and that by his absence, he claims, he showed disrespect for the institutions.

"We understand the fear and discomfort, but his duty, as the long-time leader of the state, was to come to the Parliament and, in front of the public, announce everything that interests the MPs," Vučurović said.

He also accused DPS MPs of trying to diminish the importance of the work of the Inquiry Committee and, as he said, of thereby protecting those responsible for serious crimes from the period of the former government.

Vučurović said that Montenegro can only progress after dealing with crime and the legacy of the former regime.
