Guests and officials at the ceremony in Petrovac were greeted by the President of the Blind Union of Montenegro, Goran Macanović, and the Vice President of the umbrella chess association for visually impaired people (IBCA), Pjotar Dukačevski.
The championship, organized by the Montenegrin Blind Federation, the Chess Federation and the Paralympic Committee, features 22 teams from all continents, and the Montenegrin national team is in eighth place in terms of starting rating.
Our team justified its role as a favorite in the first round and defeated Croatia 2.5-1.5. The victories were achieved by Predrag Nikač and Vjekoslav Vulević on the first and second boards, respectively. Nikač outplayed Miš Čuljak in a diamond khan with the black pieces, while Vjekoslav Vulević took advantage of the opening move against Miroslav Mađerić. Radovan Damjanović drew with Novica Dražetić on the fourth board after fair play on both sides, while Milan Ivanović was the only one defeated after he did not cope well with the position with Lovro Pergar.
Tomorrow is the second round, in which our national team will meet the Spanish national team.
