The opening of the Wizz Air base in Podgorica represents a great development opportunity, not only in terms of better air connectivity, but also as an opportunity to further position the capital as an attractive and diverse tourist destination, Andrea Rafailović-Stojović from the Podgorica Tourist Organization told Radio Montenegro.
"Therefore, Podgorica today can meet the needs of different types of tourists, both those planning a longer stay and those coming for a short time, whether it is a weekend trip, city break or transit visit. The capital is known for its large number of parks and green spaces that allow for relaxation and outdoor activities, and Gorica Hill stands out as a favorite place for recreation and spending time in nature, as well as the Gorica Adventure Park, which offers additional content for an active vacation. In the immediate vicinity is Lake Skadar, which is ideal for enjoying nature, boating or bird watching," she says.
For tourists coming for a short time, Rafailović-Stojović emphasizes that Podgorica is an ideal destination.
"For a dynamic and eventful stay in one or two days, it is possible to experience the essence of the city, so to speak, walk through the center, visit key sights, enjoy local gastronomy, as well as the rich offer of cafes, restaurants and nightlife. The compactness and ease of movement through the city are a great advantage for, let's say, shorter visits," she says.
With the opening of new lines, Rafailović-Stojović points out that they expect a larger number of tourists to arrive.
"From various European markets, we believe this is the right opportunity to present Podgorica as a destination that offers much more than it seems at first glance, as a city that is an excellent starting point for exploring Montenegro," he says.
Until now, a significant number of passengers from Montenegro have used the airports in Tirana, Dubrovnik and Belgrade, which could partially change with the new lines from Podgorica.
Dalibor Vuković from the Herceg-Novi Tourist Organization tells Radio Montenegro that the opening of the base will enable a greater number of visits to the coast.
"The establishment of new airlines with emission markets is generally very good news, considering that there was this problem in previous years," he said.
What is important to emphasize, adds Vuković, is that it is not just about seasonal flights.
"So, we can see that there will be numerous multi-year flights and numerous airlines will exist in the period of April, May, as well as after the summer months, which is in line with the goals of Montenegro as a tourist destination to get as close as possible to the epithet of a year-round tourist destination," he pointed out.
The introduction of new airlines is a great refreshment, Vuković points out.
"It is the goal of all of us, as Montenegro and as Herceg-Novi as a tourist destination, for the demographic structure of guests to be as diversified as possible, meaning that we have tourists from as many markets as possible in as many numbers as possible," says Vuković.
Because it is precisely adapting to different needs and habits that makes us better as a destination, concludes Vuković.
