All dead laying hens that two commercial farms from Bijelo Polje voluntarily dumped at a landfill in that city have been confirmed to be infected with bird flu, announced Milan Rogošić, coordinator for combating bird flu at the Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs Directorate.

He said on the Link show that it involves about 10,000 laying hens. He also announced that we have several new cases in Plav. According to him, we have no confirmed cases of the disease in humans so far.

After the first cases of bird flu in Nikšić and Bijelo Polje, new ones have appeared in Plav.

"We have several new cases. One appeared in the municipality of Plav, where we have an active outbreak, a small farm where all the animals died in a very short period of time, which is a characteristic of this disease and the first suspicion that it has appeared," said Rogošić.

The Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Administration has received information in recent days about mass deaths of poultry on two very close commercial poultry farms in Bijelo Polje. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the farms did not inform the nearest veterinary clinic or veterinary inspector about the changed health status, or deaths on their farms, which is their legal obligation. They also removed the poultry from the facilities on their own initiative.

"We have confirmations regarding two commercial farms in Bijelo Polje that, in violation of procedures and disease reporting, removed poultry from the farm to the Bijelo Polje landfill, which was handed over to the police and the prosecutor's office in Bijelo Polje for action. By order of the prosecutor's office, the material was excavated from the landfill and sampled for laboratory analysis. The presence of bird flu was confirmed in all samples," he said.

According to information from the Food Safety Authority, about 10,000 laying hens died from bird flu on these farms.

"But considering that the case has been forwarded to the prosecution and they have the details, it concerns commercial producers, so it is about 10,000 individuals," said Rogošić.
