An initiative has been launched before the Committee on Health, Labor and Social Welfare for the state to pay mothers five years of service after the birth of a child, regardless of whether they are employed or not. The initiative was submitted by Slobodanka Krgović, stating that in this way the state would repay mothers for their contribution to society and demographic development. However, the Chairman of the Legislative Committee Dragan Bojović believes that before making this decision, it is necessary to consider its financial sustainability.
In order to make retirement easier for mothers and contribute to their more dignified lives, Slobodanka Krgović is demanding that the state pay mothers five years of service after the birth of a child, regardless of whether they are employed or not.
"I believe that the state and our laws value and appreciate the dedication and effort of mothers and their contribution to society very little or almost nothing. This would mean for all mothers, not only those mothers who do not work and are exclusively dedicated to their children, but also those who are employed. It would also mean for fathers and all those who take on the responsibility of raising a child," said Krgović.
It is important to introduce measures that will support demographic development and an increase in the birth rate, because the country is facing strategic challenges in this area.
But, before making a decision, it is necessary to consider its financial sustainability, emphasized the President of the Legislative Committee, Dragan Bojović.
"The idea that the state pays mothers five years of service after the birth of a child certainly deserves serious analysis, but before making such a decision, it is necessary to consider its financial sustainability, in line with the existing system of social and pension policies, as well as possible long-term consequences," said Bojović.
It is important that measures are carefully designed to support parenthood and the family, but also preserve the principle of equality. We asked citizens what they think about this.
"The idea is interesting because it tries to help parents and recognize the importance of raising children, it certainly has social significance. On the other hand, I think it is very important to analyze well how financially sustainable it is and whether it is fair to everyone, especially those who do not have children";
"I fully support the initiative. The state must stand strong with its legal solutions and policies to empower and encourage women to fulfill themselves as mothers and deserve the full attention of the state";
"In any case, I fully support the initiative. Primarily because I believe that raising and educating children is one of the most difficult and responsible jobs if we want to lead our children on the right path," are the comments of citizens.
