The host of this prestigious event was the National Sommelier Association of Montenegro, led by President Luka Bešić, which, in cooperation with the global authority World Competition of Brussels (CMB) has managed to bring the wine world to the heart of our country.
Montenegro made history: Grand Gold and global "Revelations"
Our winemakers have achieved great success, winning the most prestigious titles possible and leaving behind extremely strong regional competition.
- The competition's highest award – International Blend Revelation: The title of the best blend of the entire competition went to Dimitrije Reserve 2017 (Rade Rajković Winery). In addition to the Grand Gold medal, this wine was declared a world "revelation", which is a triumph of tradition and proof that Montenegrin family wineries not only follow, but also defeat world standards.
- Grand Gold Medal: Another Grand Gold went to the company 13. jul Plantaže for the wine Stari Podrum Cuvee Terroir 2020, confirming that Plantaže is the undisputed guardian of the "terroir" of the Vranac expression.
"Golden rain" for Montenegrin cellars
That the Montenegrin wine scene possesses incredible breadth and quality is confirmed by a series of gold medals that have arrived in cellars from Podgorica to Crmnica and the coast:
- Keković Estate: Golden certificate for the work of this modern and promising winery.
- Krgović Winery: Gold that testifies to the supreme consistency of quality.
- Buk Winery and Zenta Winery: Gold medals that celebrate the authenticity of small, top-notch cellars.
- Vida Wines (Stratex): Confirmation of the success of a modern and innovative approach to vranac.
- July 13th Plantaže: Multiple gold medals for premium labels that form the "backbone" of Montenegrin winemaking.
The initiative that changed everything
By organizing this event, the National Sommeliers Association, led by Luka Bešić, created a platform that brought domestic wines to the forefront of the global public. Without this bold initiative, many wines, like those from the Rajković winery, might have remained hidden gems – today they are global sensations.
"Although competition from the region, such as North Macedonia, was extremely strong, Montenegro absolutely dominated in the category of blends and terroir wines. This shows our creativity and depth of the market," Luka Bešić says
The results of wineries such as Krgović, Buk and Zenta, along with the stable dominance of Plantaže, send a clear message: the Montenegrin wine scene is not just one player, but a strong army of top producers that is unwaveringly moving towards its goal - full international recognition.
