The movement stated that the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development has taken a major initial step in the implementation of the National Waste Management Plan by providing money for the construction of the Regional Waste Management Center in Nikšić.
"This is an encouraging moment for us from the civil sector, that this important document will not be a "dead letter on paper", as was unfortunately the case in previous experiences," the Ozon statement said.
They stated that the Regional Waste Management Center in Nikšić was conceived as a modern facility, with the latest technological solutions and equipment, in accordance with European Union standards, and its construction would create infrastructure that would be a permanent solution.
It is emphasized that the remediation of approximately 11 hectares of contaminated land at the location of the former industrial complex of the Podgorica Aluminum Plant in the Zeta Plain will significantly reduce risks to public health and protect groundwater and the Skadar Lake basin.
"To conclude, this kind of news gives hope that we will improve the environment of Montenegro and that the year marking 35 years since the adoption of the Declaration on an Ecological State will be remembered for significant projects and the successful process of closing Chapter 27," said Ozon.
