Namely, in the current decision-making regarding the selection of the director, a member of the UCG Board of Directors from the student body, Vedran Vujisić, who is related to the candidate Radenko Šćekić, has been involved, as announced by this NGO.
CGO expects that the rector and the president of the UCG Board of Directors, within their competencies, will establish all relevant facts and protect the legality, transparency, and credibility of this process.
“We also remind that the Ethics Committee of UCG, acting on the report of CGO, determined back in 2024 that Radenko Šćekić, by taking someone else’s text without appropriate citation, violated the rules of academic writing and undermined academic integrity. Despite this, he faced no consequences nor did he show personal responsibility by resigning from the director position, nor was he problematic to the rector as such. This reinforces the impression of poor practices that are nurtured at UCG and emphasizes the need for this process to be conducted properly,” the statement reads.
As they conclude, if UCG cares about its reputation, it should not allow a person who has already been found to have violated academic integrity to lead a scientific institution again, especially if the process of their selection is further burdened by a well-founded suspicion of a conflict of interest.
