At least 35 people were injured in a serious train accident in Russia when a night train from Moscow to Chelyabinsk derailed, causing the double-decker carriages to overturn, reports Index.hr.

There were 415 passengers on the train and at least 35 suffered minor and moderate injuries, the regional governor said.

The incident occurred near the village of Briyandino in the Ulyanovsk region, 800 kilometers east of Moscow, halfway to Chelyabinsk in western Siberia.

Investigators suspect that the accident was caused by worn track surface, Interfax news agency reported.
