“States have disagreements and I think one way to resolve them is … through brotherhood and authentic dialogue,” Burch said.
"I think the minister comes here in that spirit," Burch told reporters.
"To have an open conversation about American politics and engage in dialogue."
Rubio's visit, which coincides with the first anniversary of the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, comes weeks after Trump attacked the Chicago-born pontiff for his condemnation of the unprovoked US-Israeli war against Iran, which many see as illegal. Trump called him weak and said he was not doing a good job as head of the Catholic Church.
Pope Leo XIV has angered Trump after suggesting that the “delusion of omnipotence” is fueling the US-Israeli war against Iran, and calling the president’s threat to destroy Iranian civilization if Iran does not agree to US demands to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz “truly unacceptable.”
