Holloman Air Force Base in southern New Mexico was placed on lockdown around 5:30 p.m. due to reports of an attacker near the base store, the AP reports.
The injured person was transported for treatment, and security officials confirmed that the base was secure and the blockade had been lifted.
“Emergency personnel responded to the situation and there is no threat at this time,” the statement said.
The store within the base is closed until further notice.
Neither the names of the people killed nor additional details about the shooting have been released.
The approximately 240-square-kilometer base is home to the 49th Wing, which supports national security work and includes combat-ready airmen and guardsmen, according to their website.
