The statement said the ships had violated regulations and were now on fire, Fars news agency reported.
Iran previously announced that the Persian Gulf was closed to American ships, and that the Strait of Hormuz was closed to maritime traffic.
Media reported today that navigation through the strait is permitted, but hundreds of ships, including at least 150 tankers, are anchored on both sides of the strait while the clashes continue, reports "ATV".
