The Pole was eliminated by Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, who won in two sets – 7:5, 6:1 after an hour and 40 minutes of play.
Swiontek squandered her chance in the first set. She had a break advantage twice (4:3 and 5:4), but Kostyuk turned it around to make it 7:5.
In the second set, the Pole took a 1:0 lead, but then Marta won six games in a row and advanced to her first French Open quarterfinal.
Her next opponent will be the winner of the Elina Svitolina – Belinda Bencic match.
