Kavaja: A draw would perhaps be the most realistic

In Tallinn, the city where they began their triumphant march through the qualifications in October last year, the Montenegrin cadets suffered a defeat at the start of the European Championship.

Denmark was better, winning 2:1, with Omran Katar scoring the decisive goal in the 76th minute. The Falcons were trailing from the 20th to the 38th minute, when Mark Djokaj equalized, and in those moments Radovaj Kavaja's men had several chances to turn the game around.

"A draw would perhaps be the most realistic, but first of all I have to congratulate the quality team. Denmark imposed its rhythm and style of play, was strong in the duel, with fast plays they won space, especially in depth, which was a problem for us in the first half hour. Later we corrected that, equalized and had two situations to turn it around. I think the game would have gone in a different direction if we had been calmer in those final moments," said Kavaja.

The coach believes that the Montenegrin teams are struggling with the pace of their top rivals due to physical problems.

"We are paying a tribute to inexperience and probably also to our league which lacks intensity and then as the game goes on we are in a more inferior position. When you concede the second goal, then it becomes more difficult."

Montenegro plays Italy on Friday (1:30 p.m.), who defeated France 1:0 today. The "Falcons" defeated the "Azure" 2:1 seven and a half months ago in Tallinn.

"From this moment on, our focus is only on Italy. We know how they play, we know that they are a quality team and that we will need to improve a lot. The most important thing is to refresh ourselves now and come ready for that match," concluded Kavaja.
