For the first time in his career, Flavio Cobolli will play in the semifinals of a Grand Slam, after a four-set turnaround that eliminated fourth favorite, Felix Auger-Aliassime – 4:6, 6:4, 6:4, 6:4 after three and a half hours of great battle.
He will play against compatriots Matteo Berrettini or Matteo Arnaldi, who meet tonight in the final quarter-final, for a place in the semi-finals.
Koboli opened the match with a break, but Aliazim responded with a break. At 5:4, the Canadian used the second set point to make it 1:0.
During the break between the first and second sets, the roof of the Philippe Chatrier was closed due to the wind and rain in Paris, which turned out to be more convenient for the Italian.
Felix had a 3:1 lead in the second set, but Flavio won five of the next six games and tied the score at 1:1 in sets.
In the third set, the difference was made in the seventh game, in which the Italian took away his rival's serve and kept it until the end.
Just like in the third and fourth sets, Koboli only needed one break, and he made it in the fifth game.
