Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was unhappy with the refereeing after the defeat to Atletico Madrid at home in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

The "Jorgandžije" celebrated 2:0 and gained a significant advantage before the rematch, which will be played next Tuesday in Madrid.

Barça were left with a player less at the end of the first half, after Pau Kaubarsi was sent off.

During the match, the Catalan team's players were dissatisfied with numerous decisions made by Istvan Kovac.

"It's better not to talk about the referee. Better for me and for them," Hansi Flick told Spanish broadcaster Movistar after the match.

An unusual situation occurred in the 54th minute, when the visitors' goalkeeper, Juam Musso, took a goal kick and passed the ball to Marko Pubillo, who caught it in his hands. Barcelona's players asked for a penalty, but Kovac did not say so, nor did the VAR room, nor the referees at the touchline. The rules state that the ball must be "still" and only then can a player take it from any part of the penalty area.

"It was a clear penalty and a second yellow card for Atletico. What's the point of VAR if it's there and not used? I really can't understand that. I'm not even sure it was a red card for Pau Cubarsi," Flick was resigned.

Barça was a better rival and with one player less, Lamin Jamal tried and played the team, but after the match he could not accept the defeat, he was visibly depressed.

"Lamin is frustrated. He played a fantastic game from start to finish, both in defense and attack. As I said yesterday, he is only 18 years old, he is playing phenomenally. We have to support him, that is the most important thing. He will be one of the best players in the history of the Spanish national team," the Barcelona coach emphasized.

The second leg in Madrid is scheduled for next Tuesday.
