Flagg averaged 21 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season and is the first rookie since Michael Jordan in the 1984/1985 season to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists and steals.
The 19-year-old Flagg's biggest rival for the Wilt Chamberlain Award was his former Duke teammate Con Knippel, who plays for Charlotte. In one of the most closely contested rookie voting events in history, Flagg received 412 points to Knippel's 386.
Third place in the selection was taken by Philadelphia's VJ Edgecombe with 96 points, fourth was Dylan Harper from San Antonio with five, and last was Memphis' Cedric Coward with one point.
