The defendant's defense attorneys requested an acquittal, while the prosecution proposed that the first-instance verdict be upheld. The decision of the second-instance panel will be announced at a later date.
Borivoje Borović, Jasna Radivojev's lawyer, previously told N1 that the verdict of the Higher Court in Jagodina was "a farce, a farce and a disgrace to the Serbian judiciary", and explained that the court did not accept the findings of psychiatric experts that exempt Radivojev from criminal liability.
Jasna Radivojev previously spoke to N1 about being a victim of domestic violence during her ten years of marriage in Jagodina, which she never reported out of fear for her own life and that of her children. In the interview, she also pointed to institutional failures and the loss of custody rights over her two minor children.
The incident that led to the indictment for attempted aggravated murder occurred, according to her claims, during a conflict with her ex-husband, a local powerful man from Jagodina, when she inflicted several minor bodily injuries on him with a knife in self-defense.
Before the High Court in Jagodina, Jasna Radivojev was initially sentenced to 10 years in prison. After the Court of Appeal overturned the verdict, an even harsher sentence was pronounced in a repeated trial – a prison sentence of 11 years.
